Marylin Colyar, Gig Harbor “It takes a whole village to raise a child.” This famous proverb suggests that the upbringing of children is a communal effort. In addition to parents, children need a rich tapestry of people in their lives: aunts and uncles, grandparents, cousins, siblings, teachers and caring, nurturing adults who help create relationships, caring circles and safe spaces.

Signo Uddenberg, Gig Harbor Imagine if we kept up our highways like we maintain our schools. We would be driving on 50-year-old pothole-filled roads. Our schools are outdated, overcrowded and unsafe. We need to treat our kids as well as we treat our highways and bring our kids into this century.

After growing up in Gig Harbor and moving away for eight years for school, I always knew I would come back. Life is good here. We have a wonderful community and schools. The schools need our support now more than ever. We have overcrowding issues at many of our elementary schools. We have safety and security issues that cannot be ignored. Our community should vote yes for the school bond in April. John Hellwich, Gig Harbor I feel it is time to sound the alarm about overcrowding in the Peninsula School District. We are running a bond measure on April 24 which will also address the security, safety and outdated systems, but I want to specifically address the overcrowding.
Charlee Glock-Jackson On April 24, Peninsula-area voters will be asked to pass a $220 million capital facilities bond to rebuild, modernize or otherwise upgrade local schools.
According to school district superintendent Rob Manahan, the bond request is the result of a nearly year-long process that included meetings with more than 100 community members. |
