On April 24, 2018, a Capital Facilities Bond will be on the ballot for Peninsula School District. The bond will address the unsafe, overcrowded, outdated conditions that exist in all our schools. The bond lays the foundation for a 30 year plan for responsible maintenance of our schools and accountable spending. If this bond passes, the following projects will be completed.
Overcrowding: New School - The new elementary school will be built to relieve overcrowding at several of the District’s most impacted schools.
Facility Rebuild/Modernization - Peninsula High School was built in 1946. This bond will cover a modernization/rebuild of the 400 to 700 wings at PHS, including safety and accessibility upgrades throughout the entire school. - Artondale Elementary was built in 1959, and this bond will cover a complete modernization/rebuild. - Key Peninsula Middle School will receive a full modernization and upgrades, including science room upgrades.
System Efficiency Upgrades/Replacements - All schools will receive HVAC upgrades and HVAC control replacements. - Kopachuck, Gig Harbor High School and Peninsula High Schools will have complete roof replacements.
Safety and Accessibility - All schools will receive upgrades to fire alarms and protection to bring buildings up to current code. - All schools will receive building and site security upgrades. - All schools will be ADA compliant.
Upgrade Classrooms/Learning Environment - Discovery Elementary School - Improvements will be made to the learning environment. - Minter Creek Elementary School - Improvements will be made to the learning environment, including the library. - Kopachuck Middle School - Minor modernizations will be done, including science room improvements. - Gig Harbor High School - Science and theatre upgrades will be completed.
